Who We Are

With more than 57,000 members, American Mensa is the largest national Mensa operating under the auspices of Mensa International, Ltd. There are currently more than 100,000 members worldwide, and an estimated six million Americans are eligible for Mensa membership.

Members of American Mensa range in age from 2 to 102. They include engineers, homemakers, teachers, actors, athletes, students and CEOs, and they share only one trait — high intelligence. To qualify for Mensa, they scored in the top 2 percent of the general population on an accepted standardized intelligence test.

As a member, you have the opportunity to meet other smart people at local, regional and national levels. You can attend entertaining, intellectually stimulating events and exchange ideas with others through a variety of publications and our online Community. You can also work to help others in your community by volunteering for community-oriented activities and working with the Mensa Foundation. And you can take advantage of our variety of member benefits and services.

What We Do

Southern Nevada Mensa, a local chapter of American Mensa within Region 9, was founded in 1965 with four members. At the time, the group included the entire state of Nevada, plus portions of California and Arizona.

Today, SoNvMensa has nearly 360 members living in the southern half of Nevada, plus Bullhead City, AZ.

Mensa is an organization for those who score in the top 2 percent of the population on a standardized intelligence test. Members range in age from pre-schooler to centenarian. 

According to the Mensa constitution, our purpose is three-fold:

1. Identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity
2. Encourage research in the nature, characteristics & uses of intelligence
3. Provide a stimulating intellectual & social environment for our members

Mensa is for people of all ages who like to  s t r e t c h  their minds, take on mental challenges and enjoy the interplay of ideas. Members have abundant opportunities for social interaction with like-minded folks.  

Mensa does not have an ”official opinion” on any political, religious, philosophical or social issue. Opinions expressed on Mensa websites are those of individual members, none of whom speak for the group.
